Rosanne Cope is in charge of ensuring that your arrivals day at Sidney Sussex goes as smoothly as possible. All helpers, of which there will be many eager second and third years as well as the committee members will be identifiable and will be happy to help you move in.
If you are arriving before Saturday, then please let Rosanne or Katie know so that we can meet you when you get here and keep you entertained in the evenings.
Morning
- In the arrivals pack from college you will find a parking permit. The college car park is very small, which is why you get a specific time to unload your car so it remains uncongested. If you are late, don't worry though, you'll still be allowed in!
- If you experience any problems, the Porters are your first port of call. They are something like a cross between your Dad and Wikipedia, if you're lost, got a flat tyre or need a key for anywhere in Sidney, the porters are happy to help. You can call them on 01223 338800.
- When you arrive someone will take you to collect your keys, university card, forms and information. Someone will also help you unload your car and carry things to your room.
- During the morning you will also buy your gown. There are some second hand ones available but they sell out very quickly.
- Tea and coffee will be available all morning as well, so you can get rid of your parents if you want to, while you meet your neighbours.
Afternoon
- Before the garden party in the afternoon you may want to explore Cambridge a bit, meet some other freshers, or persuade your parents to take you to Sainsbury's so they can stock you up on the essentials, (a well stocked biscuit tin can be a great way to make friends).
- The garden party is an informal event, which will be moved into a marquee in the event of bad weather. There will be a few short speeches and some nibbles and drinks before you have to say goodbye to your parents and family.
- Your subject rep will take you on a short tour of college to help you get your bearings and then you will go out for an evening meal with your subject group.
- In the evening, the bar is open to freshers only until 9pm, and then the rest of college will descend on you, keep an eye out for your college parents if you haven't met them yet!
