Sidney Freshers 2011

Need To Know

This year, freshers' week is going to be the best ever and we are all SO excited for it. We have all been hard at work making sure that you will have the best week of your life, and to make sure you will get to know the place and people you will spend the next 3 or 4 years around. However, there are a few things you will need to know before you get here...

T-Shirts

Freshers' T-Shirt This year, we've got freshers' t-shirts for you all, sponsored by Big Fish Ents - the guys who organise some of the biggest club nights in Cambridge. You'll be able to order your t-shirt online the money will go straight onto your college bill. You'll then be able to pick up your t-shirt during freshers' week.

Page of Faces

So, you may think you're good with names, but believe us, you will forget 80% of names within the first week, and we know how awkward it can be waiting for someone else to say their name in a conversation first! So, email your name to cmrh2@cam.ac.uk with your photo and there will be a board on display with photos and names to help you!

Parents

Your college parents will be in contact soon, and will give you advice, as well as being on hand all year if you need any help. You will also have a family formal in freshers' week, which has already been booked for you.

Pineapple

La Passant de L'Ananas

Literally, the "Passing of the Pineapple" is a real tradition at Sidney Sussex. The origin of this strange tradition lies in the time when foreign dignitaries returned from world travels, and presented Lady Frances Sidney with the exotic fruits they acquired. If you feel generous, bringing a pineapple to the Master's garden party is a good way to carry on this time-honoured tradition.
