Sidney Freshers 2011

Cambridge Union Society

Sir Ian McKellen takes questions from Union members after his talk Do you have any idea what you'll be missing out on if you don't join the Union? Just this year we had the opportunity to see Stephen Fry, Dame Judi Dench, Julian Assange, Stephen Fry, Miss World, countless politicians, business leaders, and celebrities, and did I mention Stephen Fry? The weekly debates and speakers' events alone are well worth the membership fee, not to mention cocktail workshops, fitness classes, the members' bar, ents, comedy smokers, garden parties, balls. Plus your Union card will get you amazing discounts at shops and restaurants across Cambridge!

Union membership provides the only opportunity in Cambridge to see such high profile speakers, as well as being a great way to meet people from other colleges. Also, if you have opinions to share and fancy honing your public speaking skills, you can get involved yourself and have a chance to speak in the famous chamber; the Union runs debating workshops and anyone can take part in the weekly emergency debate (where students get to argue a motion decided by the members, just before the main debate).

For more info check out the Union online or on Facebook, head over to the stand at the Kelsey Kerridge fair or go to the Union building itself - it's no distance at all from Sidney, so no excuses! You'll not regret joining, and remember that there's a discount on membership if you sign up in Freshers' Week!
